FirstSearch:  An Online Introduction  

FirstSearch is an online service that gives you access to many databases.
 
FirstSearch can help you find:

• Abstracts and citations of magazine and journal articles in many different subjects

• Facts and statistics
  

• Books, videotapes, and music held in other libraries in your area and around the world

• FirstSearch normally does not contain the full text of articles -- check with your Library to make sure  -- you can use the abstracts and citations to locate the articles
  

Here are examples of some of the databases available through FirstSearch:

• CINAHL Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature -- online version of Cumulative Index to Nursing &
  Allied Health Literature, indexes nearly 900 nursing, allied health, biomedical, and consumer health journals
• FactSearch --  abstracts containing facts and statistics from over 300 publications--including newspapers, periodicals,
  the congressional hearings

• WorldCat --  World's most comprehensive shared catalog, with 37 million bibliographic records, including books, films,
  recorded music, and more
