Shortcuts:  The FirstSearch Menu Bar

The FirstSearch Menu Bar performs many useful functions.

Let's look at our CINAHL search on the subject nursing ethics as an example.
Here's a Full Record from that search.
You can the see the Menu Bar with the blue and yellow graphics.
The line below the Menu Bar tells us:

  1. Which Database we're in (CINAHL)
  2. What terms we searched (nursing and ethics in the Subject index)
  3. How many Records we retrieved (4147)
  4. Which Record we're looking at (number 3)

The Menu Bar

Database:  Clicking on the "Database" icon This icon lets us change databases will take us to the Database Selection Area.
The Database Selection Area lets us choose a different database to search.

Choosing another database

Search:  Clicking on the "Search" icon This icon lets us perform another search lets us perform another search in the same database.

Results:  Clicking on the "Results" icon "Results" takes us back to the Brief Records takes us back to the list of Brief Records.

Record:  Clicking the "Record" icon Links us back to the Full Record takes us back to the last Full Record we looked at.

News:  The "News" This links to news about FirstSearch databases icon links us to news of FirstSearch changes and new databases.

Exit:  Use the "Exit" icon Use this when you are finished searching FirstSearch to exit FirstSearch when you are finished searching.

Help:  The "Help" icon This icon links you to help screens will link us to FirstSearch help screens.
