Welcome to the Library Catalog Tutorial

This tutorial is an introduction to using the print and electronic resources at the college library. After completing the tutorial, you should know how to:

Identify services the library provides.

Search for books and videos in the library catalog.

Locate materials in your library using Library of Congress call numbers.

Use an Internet browser.

The tutorial will not teach you everything you should know about searching for, evaluating and using information resources. It will provide you with the skills necessary to find books and audiovisual materials for college level research.

Although the examples in the tutorial are from Northern Virginia Community College's catalog, the skills you learn here apply at all of the libraries in the Virginia Community College System.
