More Searching Tips

Nesting is the use of parentheses to group keywords together by using more than one Boolean operator.

For example, searching for:

children and (TV or television)
will find records containing the keywords children with either TV or television in them.
Truncation allows you to use a "?" to search for all words with the same root or beginning, without regard to the ending of the word.

For example, typing:

invest?
will retrieve records with invest, invests, investing, investment, etc.

The ? truncation symbol can also be used in subject and title searches.

Ask a librarian for help if you have questions about keyword searching, Boolean operators or truncation symbols.
